              Travis Perkins Board Appointment



Michael  Dearden,  58,  has been appointed  a  non-executive
director of Travis Perkins plc.  A non-executive director of
Johnson Matthey plc, Mr Dearden joined Burmah Castrol plc in
1980 and during his career with the company held a number of
key appointments both in the UK and overseas.

Mr  Dearden joined the main board of Burmah Castrol in  1995
as  executive director of the Chemicals Division and in 1998
was appointed chief executive of Castrol International.   He
is  due  to  retire from Burmah Castrol at the end  of  this
year.
