                   John Carter to join Travis Perkins Board

John Carter, 40, is to join the board of timber and builders' merchant Travis
Perkins plc on 1 July 2001.  Mr Carter has been operations director for the
group's principal subsidiary, Travis Perkins Trading Company Ltd, since 1996.
He joined the company as a management trainee in 1978.
