ELTROTEC S.A.C. and IntelliSAW Announce Strategic Partnership in Peru

Transense Technologies plc ("Transense" or the "Company") (AIM: TRT), the provider of sensor systems for the transportation and industrial markets, is pleased to announce that its trading division, IntelliSAW, a leading provider of next generation wireless sensor systems for smart grid applications, has entered into a strategic distribution agreement with Green Electric Solutions S.A., a division of the Peruvian firm ELTROTEC S.A.C. ("ELTROTEC").  Based in Lima, Green Electric Solutions is focused on combining emerging technologies with advanced systems engineering for the electric power industry.

Peru's economy is steadily expanding, and with it, significant investments are being made in energy infrastructure to increase capacity and modernise the existing grid.  For IntelliSAW, this represents an opportunity to further serve the South American market with sensor systems that enable the cost-effective management of wide-scale power grid networks through real-time condition-based monitoring.  Using IntelliSAW's wireless passive sensors in conjunction with SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) systems technology, central offices can monitor the condition of hundreds of electric power substations simultaneously and identify with pinpoint accuracy those specific cabinets that may require service in order to avoid an outage incident.

Carlos Hugo Valle Angulo, General Manager of Green Electric Solutions, said:  "We see an excellent synergy between the IntelliSAW capability, our current customers and the future direction of our business in support of the electric power industry in Peru. Condition-based monitoring is not a new concept, but the IntelliSAW products make thermal monitoring inside an enclosed cabinet a practical reality for the first time. We foresee strong customer demand."

Graham Storey, CEO of Transense, commented, "IntelliSAW welcomes the addition of Green Electric Solutions to its rapidly expanding global distributor network. Its parent, ELTROTEC, brings a solid reputation along with considerable expertise in electrical asset management solutions and we are pleased to join forces with their team. In addition to serving customers in Peru, this partnership strengthens IntelliSAW's presence in South America and furthers our overall strategy to implement strong coverage in emerging markets. We envisage a very bright future together."

About IntelliSAW

IntelliSAW, a trading division of Transense Technologies plc (AIM: TRT.L), develops and markets patent protected wireless, passive surface acoustic wave (SAW) based sensing systems targeted at challenging industrial applications. Its IS485 family of products provides temperature monitoring of critical electric power switchgear equipment in Smart Grid applications.

IntelliSAW's proprietary solution is wireless and does not require any power to the sensors, affording ease of installation and system commissioning while avoiding introducing any arcing or flashover concerns. Moreover the IntelliSAW system outputs data directly onto existing communication networks using standard protocols, allowing for instantaneous monitoring and control.

The IS485 platform brings an advanced feature set as compared to legacy solutions on the market today, including twelve independent sensor frequencies and four antenna connections per reader which combined allow for up to 48 sensors per system. Further innovative advances in interrogation protocols, differential sensor topology, and microcontroller architecture serve to resolve a number of known issues with existing solutions including sensor drop-out, challenging system set-up processes, positional dependence of sensor calibration, and non-compliance to high voltage application environments.

About SCADA

SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) generally refers to industrial control systems(ICS): computer systems that monitor and control industrial, infrastructure, or facility-based processes.

About Condition-based maintenance (CBM) and monitoring

Condition-based maintenance (CBM) is maintenance when need arises. This maintenance is performed after one or more indicators show that equipment is going to fail or that equipment performance is deteriorating.

Condition-based maintenance was introduced to try to maintain the correct equipment at the right time. CBM is based on using real-time data to prioritise and optimise maintenance resources. Observing the state of the system is known as condition monitoring. Such a system will determine the equipment's health, and act only when maintenance is actually necessary.
