Re Agreement

Transense Technologies PLC 30 October 2001 Transense signs Licence agreement with TT electronics Transense Technologies plc ('Transense') has signed a licence agreement with TT electronics plc (TT) to use the Transense patented Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) technology in the development of a new generation of Electric Power Assisted Steering (EPAS) systems for the automotive industry by TT. Under terms of the agreement TT will pay a licence fee followed by royalties on the sale of all steering systems incorporating Transense' technology, which is protected by worldwide patents. Transense is developing a wide range of sensor systems based on SAW devices and the electronics which are needed to communicate with them. A number of other licence agreements have been signed for their use in tyre pressure monitoring applications. Jim Perry, CEO of Transense said last night: 'I am delighted that a supplier of the stature of TT is endorsing our technology in this application. Over the past decade, their strategy has been focused on manufacturing high quality products for the automotive industry and already more than 50% of all cars produced in Europe and the USA incorporate a component or assembly manufactured by TT. 'There is undoubtedly a large and growing market for EPAS systems, which are much easier to install than hydraulic power steering units. They are also more cost effective and environmentally more desirable because they give up to a 5% fuel saving over conventional hydraulic systems. It is anticipated that by the end of this decade EPAS will take over from hydraulics as the market leader in assisted steering. 'We believe that the exciting new application which will be produced as a result of these licence agreements, will keep TT at the forefront of power steering electronics and maintains our strategy of making Transense a world leader in developing and licensing SAW sensor technology in a variety of applications'. John Newman, Chairman of TT said last night: 'TT electronics has already established world leadership in sensor technology and has successfully gained first mover advantage within the steering wheel sensor market which is reflected in our strong forward order book. The licence to manufacture an additional range of steering wheel sensors will ensure TT electronics remains at the forefront of a market, which industry sources estimate will grow to over 20 million units by 2010'.
