TESCO ANNOUNCES BOARD CHANGE

Tesco plc today announces that, after nearly 39 years of outstanding service to Tesco in its UK operations, for the last 13 on its PLC Board and, most recently, having thoroughly enjoyed leading its business in Asia as CEO, David Potts has decided to retire from Tesco in order to begin to fulfil long held personal ambitions.

Group CEO Philip Clarke said: "I have worked alongside David for most of his time at Tesco.  I want to thank him for his commitment to, and relentless efforts on behalf of, our customers and colleagues and to do so on behalf of everyone at Tesco. David has been an incredible servant to the company and an inspiration to thousands of our leaders, whose own careers are flourishing because he played his part in developing many of the programmes which made the Tesco retail team amongst the most admired in the world. I wish him and his family all the very best in their future together."

David will retire on 30 June 2012, when he will have completed an outstanding 39 years' service. Between now and then David will work on one or two projects for the Group CEO, thus enabling his successor immediately to continue the leadership task of driving our growth in Asia.  David will be replaced as CEO Asia by Trevor Masters, who currently leads our business in Europe.  Trevor is succeeded by Gordon Fryett who, alongside his existing Group Property accountabilities, is appointed CEO, Europe.
