Drilling Of Windfall Project In Sweden To Start In Early April
Ground Geophysical Survey Outlines New Open-Ended Anomalies
Exploration Of Other Areas planned As Field Season Approaches
__________________________________________________________________
AIM-listed Tertiary Minerals plc has completed a preliminary
geophysical assessment of its Windfall zinc project in Sweden
which has enhanced the mineral potential of the untested 1.5km
zone between Vindfall and Sortarnan, the two known mineralised
prospects on the property.
Interpretation of recently acquired airborne magnetic data
confirms that these two prospects lie within the same
stratigraphic trend, thus confirming the potential for
mineralisation being present in the previously untested gap
between the two. The data also suggest the presence of a deeper
zone of alteration beneath the Vindfall prospect which may host
further mineralisation.
The geophysical assessment also included an induced polarisation
(IP) ground survey at Windfall to determine if the low levels of
iron and copper sulphides associated with project's zinc minerals
could be detected by such a method. Unlike most base metal
sulphide minerals, sphalerite, the dominant zinc sulphide mineral
at Windfall, is not electrically conductive and can be difficult
to detect by most geophysical methods, including IP.
Vindfall Prospect
Three orientation profiles run over the known main zone of zinc
rich mineralisation at Vindfall did not give a response, thereby
limiting the method's value in exploring for extensions of this
main zone. However, the test profiles did encounter a good IP
anomaly approximately 200m to east of the known mineralisation in
an area previously mapped as unprospective granite which has never
been tested by drilling. This anomaly extends over a strike length
of 325m and is open and increasing in strength to the north-east.
It runs semi-parallel to the main zinc zone.
This new anomaly sits in the interpreted alteration zone beneath
the main zone and is a priority drilling target. Two diamond
drill holes to test this anomaly are planned to start in April,
and additional holes will step out to test the projected
extensions of the main zinc zone.
Sortarnan prospect
Two orientation IP profiles were run at Sortarnan, some 1.5km
north-east along strike from Vindfall, the southern of which
detected a weak anomaly associated with known high grade zinc
mineralisation. One exploratory IP profile was run, some 300m
north-east of the limit of Tertiary's previous drilling. This
encountered a similar weak IP anomaly which may indicate a
significant untested strike extension to the known zinc
mineralisation.
As at Vindfall, both orientation traverses encountered a good IP
anomaly some 200m east of the known zinc-mineralised zone. This
anomaly is also open ended and may indicate additional
mineralisation.
Planned drilling at Sortarnan will test the IP anomalies and the
projected extensions of the high grade zinc-mineralised zone.
Windfall Geochemical Programme
A geochemical programme is also planned to test broader areas of
the prospective lithology along strike from Vindfall and Sortarnan
and other outlying areas of the company's mineral exploration
permits.
