Holding in Company

Tate & Lyle PLC was informed on 18 January 2001 that on 4 January 2001 
Brandes Investment Partners, LP held 12,085,690 Ordinary shares in Tate & Lyle
PLC which is no longer a notifiable interest under Section 199(2) (a) of the
Companies Act 1985, being 2.51 per cent. of the nominal value of the relevant
share capital, reduced from their holding on 30 November 2000 of 14,667,554
Ordinary shares which was then 3.05  per cent. of the nominal value of the
relevant share capital.
