Tate & Lyle PLC - Disposal

Tate & Lyle PLC announces that on September 15, 2000 it sold the assets of
Rumenco to a newly formed company, Rumenco Ltd.   Rumenco, based in
Burton-on-Trent, is a leading manufacturer and supplier of specialty animal
feeds products, principally to the UK market.  

The value of net assets sold is £4 million.

Sale proceeds will be used to reduce Tate & Lyle Group debt.
