Directors' Notification of Dealing in Shares

Tate & Lyle announces that an option to buy 1014 Tate & Lyle Ordinary shares
at 340 pence each share which had been granted to Mr S Gifford who is an
executive director of Tate & Lyle PLC was lapsed on 1 September 2000.  The
option had been granted under an approved savings related share option scheme
and had been normally exercisable during the period 1 March 2000 to 31 August
2000. Following this announcement Mr Gifford retains options to buy 416,437
Tate & Lyle Ordinary shares.
