Tate & Lyle announces that on 16 November 1999 Mr. J.H.W. Walker, an executive
director, exercised options to purchase 20,000 Ordinary shares in Tate & Lyle
PLC at 272p per share. On the same day Mr. Walker sold 10,600 shares and his
wife sold 3,400 shares, both at 475p per share. Following these transactions
Mr. Walker has an interest in 18,673 Ordinary shares in Tate & Lyle PLC.
