Tate & Lyle announces that on 4 August 1999 Mr S Gifford, an executive
director, was allotted 1,474 Ordinary shares in Tate & Lyle PLC on his
exercise of a savings related share option. The option price per share was
351 pence. Following this allotment Mr Gifford has an interest in 79,114
Ordinary shares in Tate & Lyle PLC.
