                                 Contract Wins

The Directors of Tanfield Group are pleased to announce that its subsidiary,
Smiths Electric Vehicles (SEV), has won its first major order from Eastern
Europe. The contract is for Aerial Access vehicles with deliveries starting in
April 2005 and running until March 2006. The initial part of this order is for
40 vehicles and will generate revenues of at least £500,000 with additional
sales expected to follow.

The company is negotiating further significant contracts within this market.
