         Shareholding in Tanfield Group Plc ('Tanfield' 'the Company')

The Company was on 15 December 2004 notified by Jupiter Asset Management Limited
that it holds 21,602,900 ordinary shares in the Company, representing 18.34 per
cent of the issued share capital, that Jupiter UK Special Situations Fund holds
a further 12,601,500 ordinary shares, representing 10.70 per cent and that
Jupiter Primadona Growth Trust Plc holds a further 4,000,000 ordinary shares,
representing 3.40 per cent. All shares in these holdings are held on behalf of
disctretionary clients.

In addition, the Company was informed on 20 December 2004 by Gartmore Investment
Limited that as a result of a purchase of 7,000,000 ordinary shares on behalf of
its client Strathclyde Pension Fund (Registered holder Nortrust Nominees
Limited) that client now holds 7,000,000 ordinary shares, representing 5.94 per
cent.
