STV launches City Sites for Edinburgh and Glasgow

STV Glasgow and STV Edinburgh - Everything around you

STV today launches two brand new, dedicated websites for the cities of Edinburgh and Glasgow - www.stvglasgow.com and www.stvedinburgh.com.

Providing compelling, lively and up-to-date content, these city sites will cover what's happening in Edinburgh and Glasgow right now, focusing on four key editorial areas:

·      News:   all the news and sport of the day, including breaking stories, in-depth reporting plus weather and travel updates;

·      Going Out: lifestyle content including shopping, going out, culture and entertainment;

·      Magazine: features, community participation and all the hot local issues;

·      Find It: trusted listings featuring a Business Directory and a comprehensive

      Events service.

STV is committed to delivering accessible services via multi-platforms across Scotland and the decision to create city sites for Glasgow and Edinburgh further reinforces this commitment.  As part of the STV Local platform, these sites will offer the opportunity to engage with content on a city-wide level but also for communities within the cities to connect on a more local level.

With a team of dedicated journalists behind each site, visitors can be promised immediate access to all of the essential info needed to experience the cities to the full and everything they have to offer.

STV has created two one-minute on-air commercials to launch the new websites, based on the concept, "Everything around you", and are seen as a seamless 360 degree view of scenes from each area.  You can view the adverts by clicking on the links: Glasgow and Edinburgh - and further information can be found below.

STV Local plans to launch additional sites in the coming months, including a city site for Aberdeen.

David Milne, Editor of STV Local, said:

"The evolution of STV Local has led us to the creation of two city sites for Edinburgh and Glasgow, each aspiring to be 'the voice of the city'. The sites are a natural extension of the Local network and are built around core values, including our passionate belief in community. Our hope is that our Edinburgh and Glasgow sites, with their compelling editorial and video content, will prove essential to those who live and work in these great cities."

Rob Woodward, Chief Executive of STV, added:

"The launch of bespoke city sites for Glasgow and Edinburgh is further reinforcement of STV's commitment to delivering innovative media services across Scotland.  Based on unique relevant content we continue to build new consumer connections, creating new platforms for advertisers to reach their target markets."

NOTES TO EDITORS

About the STV City Site Commercials

STV has created one minute commercials launching new community websites: STV Edinburgh and STV Glasgow. The concept behind the adverts is "Everything around you".

The commercials are seen as a seamless 360 degree view of scenes from each area. The locations were chosen carefully, first to reflect what is available on the website, for example, 'what's on', sport, restaurants, events; and secondly that they are a local's view of the city, rather than a tourist's view.

In the penultimate scene we pan into someone's home, where we see an iPad with the STV Local website on screen. We magically move though the room, and find ourselves right back at the start of the commercial. The camera continues to rotate and the commercial ends as we realise we have turned a complete circle, echoing the "Everything around you" theme.

The Edinburgh advert features the Dean Gallery, the Meadows, Grange Cricket Club, South Queensferry and Oloroso.

The Glasgow advert features Govanhill Baths, Shawfield Race Track, Cowcaddens flats bowling green, and Great Western Road.

The music enhances our philosophy, by using young Scottish band, 'A Band Called Quinn'.

Stephen O'Donnell, Head of STV Creative, said:  "These are high quality commercials, which are really original with a contemporary look and feel that reflects the modern, sophisticated nature of the new websites."

The creative was developed by The Union, produced by STV Creative and Directed by David Boni and Mark Huskisson.
