STV APPEAL RAISES £2,510,002 FOR SCOTLAND'S

CHILDREN LIVING IN POVERTY

The STV Appeal, which raises money for children and young people in Scotland affected by poverty, has raised £2,510,002 so far this year.

This total is a result of fundraising efforts across Scotland which culminated in a live STV programme on Friday, 11th October.

The STV Appeal was launched in 2011 by The Hunter Foundation and STV and, since its launch in 2011, the STV Appeal has raised over £5m.

In 2013, The Wood Family Trust pledged its support to The STV Appeal for projects in the North East of Scotland.

The STV Appeal works closely with Scotland's leading experts in the field of child poverty, sharing knowledge and expertise with both small community groups and national charities on their experiences of addressing the challenges of child poverty in Scotland.

The STV Appeal spends 100% of the money donated on the kids who most need it as all overheads are met by STV and The Hunter Foundation.  Every single penny raised stays in Scotland.  In 2011, 2012 and 2013, the Scottish Government committed to match fund the total amount raised, up to £1m.

Sir Tom Hunter,STV Appeal trustee, said: "This is an outstanding result. We asked the Scottish people to stand up against child poverty and they answered emphatically. No-one in Scotland believes we cannot rid ourselves of this appalling blight and thanks to this Appeal we go one step closer in a long march to doing so.

"The Scottish Government's commitment to this has been outstanding as has STV and their entire staff - a huge thank you to them all for shining a light on this horrendous problem, a problem we can and will fix."

Garreth Wood, Trustee of the Wood Family Trust, said: "Witnessing first-hand the support the STV Appeal has received from across Scotland has been overwhelming. To think that 220,000 children in Scotland are still living in poverty right now - in 2013 - is incredibly distressing. Meeting some of the inspirational young people tonight who have been affected by this really highlights the key role that local charities play in supporting young people and their families. With the help of individuals, communities, and businesses this fantastic total will go a long way in helping tackle the poverty crisis facing so many of Scotland's children. We, the Wood Family Trust, also hope that our involvement and contribution will make a difference to the lives of Scotland's most vulnerable children."

Rob Woodward, chief executive of STV, said: "This has been a brilliant night of live TV, first class entertainment and, of course, fundraising for the STV Appeal.

"The STV Appeal is committed to investing in projects that will make a real difference in their lives and the amazing total of £2,510,002 will go a long way to achieving this. We could not have done this without the support of local communities, corporate fundraisers and STV viewers and we would like to thank everyone who has donated so generously to this year's STV Appeal."
