SMG wins Chris Evans case

SMG PLC 26 June 2003 SMG WINS CHRIS EVANS CASE SMG plc has successfully defended the legal action brought by Chris Evans. The Court ruled today that Chris Evans had repeatedly broken the terms of his contract and that Virgin Radio acted properly in terminating his contract. Mr Justice Lightman has decided that he is not entitled to any of the shares he was claiming and dismissed his claim for damages. The judge has also made it clear that Virgin Radio is entitled to seek damages from Chris Evans and these, along with costs, will be determined at a later hearing. Commenting after the judgment was announced, Andrew Flanagan, Chief Executive of SMG, said: 'We had a duty and a responsibility to vigorously defend our actions and this case on behalf of our shareholders.
