NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

SMG appoints new Executive Director

SMG plc announces today, 27 February 2001, the appointment of George
Watt as an executive director of the Company.  George becomes Group
Finance Director, a position he has filled in an acting capacity
since 7 August 2000.

Also today, the Company has received information under Section 324
of the Companies Act 1985 in respect of George Watt's interests in
the Company's ordinary shares of 2.5p each.
