Appointment of Steve Bertamini as Group Executive Director

On 22 April 2008 the Board of Directors of Standard Chartered PLC (the 'Company') announced the appointment of Stefano Paolo Bertamini as Group Executive Director with effect from 1 June 2008, subject to regulatory approval. The Company now confirms that regulatory approval for this appointment has been received.  

The Company also announces that prior to his appointment Mr Bertamini purchased 2,000 ordinary shares in the Company at a price of £18.40 per share. The shares were purchased on 16 May 2008.
