Standard Chartered PLC 31 July 2000 BOARD ANNOUNCEMENT Standard Chartered PLC announces that Barry Clare has joined the Board as a Non-Executive Director with immediate effect. Barry Clare (47) is an Executive Director of the Boots Company PLC responsible for its fastest growing division, Boots Healthcare International. Prior to joining Boots in 1991, he gained strategic, international, marketing experience at Procter & Gamble and Diversey Corporation, latterly as Corporate Vice President of Marketing. A graduate of Christ's College, Cambridge, Mr Clare was educated at Manchester Grammar School. Standard Chartered also announces that Fred Enlow, Group Executive Director responsible for Consumer Banking, will be leaving the Board on 31st August, having reached retirement age. Mike DeNoma, who was appointed to the Board in May, will assume Fred Enlow's responsibilities.
