Planetfootball, Europe's leading official branded football web site developer, has launched a site dedicated to the world of professional darts. The site, www.planetdarts.co.uk, was given a 'soft' launch on Sunday 25 July 1999. The new website is the result of a three-year licensing agreement between Planetfootball and the Professional Darts Corporation ('PDC'), which officially represents professional dart players world-wide. The site, which is updated on a daily basis, is the ultimate in darts news, views, statistics and merchandising. Darts fans are able to log-on and not only read interviews with the top players but also download audio interviews, check out the players' profiles, listen to an interview with the 'Velvet Gob' of darts, Sid Waddell, and pick-up the latest PDC World Rankings. The launch of www.planetdarts.co.uk coincided with the first PDC tournament of the year, the PDC World Matchplay, which is taking place at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool. The latest tournament results are being posted on the web, leg by leg, to ensure none of the top action is missed. The armchair is able to listen to all the action on-line with commentary provided by the Sky Sports team made up of Sid Waddell, John Gwynne and Dave Lanning. The forecast audience figure for the PDC World Matchplay is 1.7 million. John O'Connor, Sports Director of Planetfootball, said that he was delighted with the website: 'Our aim is to make www.planetdarts.co.uk the world-wide contemporary site for the provision of darts information. The site is interactive and will be the ultimate magazine for the 60 million darts enthusiasts around the world.' www.planetdarts.co.uk will be officially launched later this year with an on-line auction of exclusive darts merchandise signed by all the top players including Eric Bristow, Rod Harrington and Phil Taylor.
