Spectris plc: Transaction in own shares


Spectris plc announces that on 12 April 2007 it purchased 25,000 of its 5p
ordinary shares at a volume weighted average price paid per share of 894.450p.
Spectris plc purchased these shares via Hoare Govett Limited's affiliate, ABN
AMRO Bank N.V., London Branch.

The highest price paid per share was 898p, and the lowest price paid was 889p.

The shares purchased will be held as treasury shares. Following the above
purchase, Spectris plc holds 353,299 shares in treasury.

The total number of ordinary shares in issue (excluding treasury shares) is
124,651,824.
