Changes to Spectris' Executive Management team

28 January 2014 - Spectris plc (SXS: LSE), the productivity-enhancing instrument and controls company, today announces the following changes to the Executive Management team.

Eoghan O'Lionaird and Jo Hallas appointed Business Group Directors

On 3 February 2014, Eoghan O'Lionaird will join Spectris as Business Group Director with responsibility for the Materials Analysis and Test & Measurement segments. Eoghan most recently served as President of the Leica Microsystems Division of Danaher Corporation in Germany. Prior to this, Eoghan spent 11 years in Philips in a number of management roles, latterly as CEO of the Respironics Sleep business unit based in the USA. He started his career with Mitsui Mining and Smelting where he held a number of engineering and commercial positions. Eoghan has lived and worked extensively in Asia, Europe and the USA. Eoghan is an Irish national having engineering degrees in electronics and controls from University College, Cork and the University of Limerick, as well as an MBA from IMD in Lausanne.

At a date yet to be finalised but expected to be during the second quarter of 2014, Jo Hallas will join Spectris as Business Group Director with responsibility for the In-line Instrumentation and Industrial Controls segments. Jo comes to Spectris from Invensys plc where currently she holds the position of General Manager Residential Controls. Prior to her career in Invensys, Jo was at the Robert Bosch Group where she held management positions in both the UK and Germany. She started her career at Procter & Gamble where she served in a number of management roles in Germany, the USA and Asia. Jo is a non-executive director of Norcros plc and serves as Chair of the Remuneration Committee. Jo has an MA in Engineering and a Diploma in Computer Science from the University of Cambridge, as well as an MBA from INSEAD.

Eoghan and Jo will not initially be appointed formally to the Board, but will be present at meetings in order to contribute to its deliberations.

Jim Webster to retire as Business Group Director

After over 20 years in his role as Business Group Director, Jim Webster has communicated that he intends to retire at or before the end of the first half of this year, with the exact date remaining to be determined.

In addition, as previously advised, Steve Blair is to leave his post in order to take up a position as Chief Executive of e2v technologies plc and it has now been agreed that he will step down from the Board on 25 February 2014. 

Commenting on these changes, John O'Higgins, Chief Executive said:

"During my time as Chief Executive of Spectris and for many years prior, Jim has made an enormous contribution both to the strategic development of the Group and to the growth of our individual businesses. We are fortunate to have his continued guidance through this transitional period.  I should also like to thank Steve for his contribution and to wish him well in his new role."
