ANNOUNCEMENT OF RESULTS AND RECOMMENDATION OF DIVIDEND

It is expected that a duly constituted committee of the Board will meet on
Wednesday 26 September 2007 for the purposes of (i) approving a preliminary
announcement of the results of the Company for its 2006/07 financial year and
(ii) recommending a final dividend on the ordinary shares for the same period.

Subject to approval at the Annual General Meeting, the 2007 final dividend will
be paid on 23 November 2007 to ordinary shareholders registered at the close of
business on 26 October 2007. The 'ex-dividend' date will be 24 October 2007.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

The Annual General Meeting of Smiths Group plc for 2007 will be held at 12:00
noon on Tuesday 20 November 2007 at The Banqueting Suite, Lord's Cricket Ground,
Grace Gate, St John's Wood Road, London NW8 8QN.
