Smith & Nephew plc has been notified today that Mr P. Hooley, a director of
the Company has been granted, at today's date, 3,349 three year options over
ordinary shares of 122/9p each at an option price of 289.2p under the
Company's Savings Related Share Option Scheme.

Mr Hooley now has a total of 431,585 options over ordinary shares of the
Company.
