                DS SMITH PLC NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR APPOINTMENT

DS Smith Plc, the international packaging manufacturer and office products
wholesaler, announces the following appointment to the Board with effect from 29
January 2007.



George Adams

George Adams is appointed as a non-Executive Director of the Company.  George,
aged 51, is currently Managing Director, European Development and Chief
Executive Officer, UK Trade at Kingfisher Plc.  Previously he held senior
management positions at B&Q UK, FW Woolworth Plc, Makro UK and Management
Horizons Europe Management Consultancy.  He is a non-Executive Director of the
specialist economics consultancy, Frontier Economics, and of Hornbach Holding
AG.



As required by the Listing Rules, it is confirmed that there are no details to
be disclosed pursuant to LR 9.6.13 R (1) to (6).  Mr Adams does not hold any
shares in the Company.
