SGS is pleased to announce the acquisition of Am'Tech Medical in Sèvres (near Paris), France. Am'Tech Medical is the leading medical devices regulatory control services provider in France since its foundation in 1996. France represents the largest market in regulatory and quality control of radiological devices and is at the vanguard of implementing the European Community Directive 97/43 "Euratom", which aims to protect individuals against exposure to ionizing radiation. Am'Tech Medical is approved by the French national regulators - Agence Française de Sécurité Sanitaire des Produits de Santé (AFSSAPS); Autorité de Sûreté Nucléaire (ASN) - for all seven types of inspection activities currently regulated by the EC Directive (analog & digital mammography, radio diagnosis, dental radiology, bone density analysis, scannography equipment and radioprotection), and is also accredited by COFRAC. Privately owned, Am'Tech Medical employs 17 staff, covering the whole country, and reported revenue in 2009 of about € 2.5 million. It operates in a strictly regulated environment and shares SGS' values of independence, integrity and professional ethics. "This acquisition enables SGS to expand our service offering in France by entering into a highly specialized field of activity and acquire a leading position in that domain, with potential for replication in other regulation-driven markets where the "Euratom" directive has to be implemented" commented Chris Kirk, CEO of SGS. In addition, this acquisition allows SGS to propose these services to non-regulatory environments keen to promote voluntary prevention measures designed to safeguard the health of individuals exposed to radiological equipment.
