INTERIM ANNOUNCEMENT FOR THE YEAR ENDING 31 MARCH 2000

Severn Trent Plc will announce its Interim Results for the half year ending 30
September 1999 on Friday 3 December 1999.

At the same time the Company will also declare a first interim dividend on the
Company's Ordinary Shares of 65 5/19 pence each for the year ending 31 March
2000.

Associated dates relating to the payment of this first interim dividend are as
follows:-

Ex-dividend date            29 December 1999
Record date                  6 January 2000
First interim dividend
payment date                 6 April 2000
