AGM Statement

Severfield-Rowen PLC 11 June 2001 11 June 2001 SEVERFIELD-ROWEN PLC Chairman's AGM Statement Addressing today's AGM, Peter Levine, Chairman, Severfield-Rowen plc, the Structural Steel Group, said: 'Trading at the beginning of the year has been satisfactory, with our current projections indicating that we are in line with budget for the year as a whole. Relative to the current market conditions prevailing in the UK structural steelwork industry we remain on course for a good year. 'Within the last month we have completed the joint venture with Corus, W & J Leigh, a leading paint manufacturer and another fabricator, Atlas Ward, in connection with the manufacture of fire engineered and cellular equivalent beams out of steel plate. These products will be fabricated in the new line 6 which will commence production within the next two months. These are unique patent protected products for which there is proven demand and we are confident that these products will positively contribute to the Group's results in 2002 and beyond. 'It is increasingly apparent that our reputation, production efficiencies, quality of service and financial strength have combined to ensure that not only has our leading market position been maintained but it has been enhanced. 'Our forward order book is currently at £75 million and enquiries for significant projects for which our Group is particularly suited are encouraging. 'Our financial strength is at record levels and the proceeds of the recent £14 million sale and leaseback of our Dalton facility gives us the flexibility to exploit both organic and acquisition opportunities as they arise. 'Despite continued challenging market conditions, 2001 should be another year of good progress with demonstrable growth extending into 2002 and the foreseeable years to come.'
