               THE SCOTTISH ORIENTAL SMALLER COMPANIES TRUST PLC

    CORRECTION TO THE PRELIMINARY RESULTS FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 AUGUST 2004

Further to the announcement of the preliminary results for The Scottish Oriental
Smaller Companies Trust plc ('Company') dated 21 October 2004, the date on which
the final dividend of the Company of 1.575p net is recommended to be paid to
shareholders is 27 January 2005, and not 21 January 2005 as originally stated in
such preliminary results.
