THE SCOTTISH ORIENTAL SMALLER COMPANIES TRUST PLC

(the 'Company')

Result of Annual General Meeting, 23 January 2009

At the Annual General Meeting of the Company held today all of the resolutions were passed, including those detailed below:  

• the resolution seeking share buy-back authority was passed. The Company now has the authority for share repurchases of 4,532,047 ordinary shares in the Company being 14.99% of the issued share capital as at today's date
  
• Special Business

Shareholders approved by special resolution the adoption of new Articles of Association.

Copies of the resolutions passed under special business together with two copies of the new Articles of Association have been submitted to the UK Listing Authority and will shortly be available for inspection at the UK Listing Authority's Document Viewing Facility, which is located at:
