                            Appointment of Director



The Board of The Scottish American Investment Company P.L.C. is pleased to
announce the appointment of Eric Hagman CBE as a Director of the Company with
immediate effect.



Mr Hagman, who is 58, is a Chartered Accountant. He joined Arthur Andersen in
1971, becoming a partner in 1979 and he was Managing Partner in Scotland in
1982.   He retired in 2002 as a member of the UK leadership team. He is
currently a director of British Polythene Industries plc, The Royal College of
Art, Celtic plc and Glen Group plc.



His appointment falls to be ratified at the Annual General Meeting of the
Company to be held on 24 March 2005.
