THE SCOTTISH AMERICAN INVESTMENT COMPANY PLC (SAINTS)

Mr William Berry (a Director) notified the Company by letter dated 26th
January 2001 that he had resigned as a Trustee of both Mrs Anna Younger's
Trust for Great Grandchildren and G W Younger's Trust for Grandchildren. With
effect from 26th January 2001 Mr Berry no longer has an interest in the Trusts
holdings of 10,000 and 7,280 SAINTS shares respectively.
