AGM Statement

Walker Greenbank PLC 13 June 2001 For publication at 11.00 a.m. WALKER GREENBANK PLC CHAIRMAN'S AGM STATEMENT The Viscount Thurso, Chairman of Walker Greenbank, said at today's AGM: 'As I said in my statement accompanying the Report and Accounts, last year was unsatisfactory in many respects. However, we did lay the groundwork to return this business to profitability. Market conditions are difficult. The current problems impacting for example the leisure industry in this country, have made trading difficult for some of our customers. Overall, there is little improvement in our trading performance in the first quarter. However, the actions we took last year to reduce the cost base and the further actions put in place by our new Chief Executive, David Medcalf, are producing results. The recent acquisition of the business of Strines Textiles will not only utilise much of the surplus capacity in our textiles operations, but also has removed a competitor. Therefore, assuming no further deterioration in the market, I expect our operations to return to profitability in the second half of the current financial year.'
