J Sainsbury plc announces new non-executive director

J Sainsbury plc today announces that Matt Brittin (42), UK and Ireland Managing Director at Google, has been appointed a non-executive director and joins the company's Board today.

David Tyler, Sainsbury's chairman, commenting on the appointment said, "I am delighted that Matt has agreed to join Sainsbury's Board. We were looking for someone who would complement the skills and experience of our existing team and I am sure he will contribute widely to our future growth aspirations."

"I am very pleased to be joining the Board of Sainsbury's", said Matt Brittin. "Its brand has strong consumer values and its sales are going from strength to strength both off-line and on-line."

1.	Matt Brittin (42) is the UK and Ireland Managing Director and Vice President at Google, having previously been the Director of UK Sales, Google.
2.	Previously Commercial Development Director at Trinity Mirror between 2004 and 2006, having joined the Trinity Mirror Group in 2004 from McKinsey & Company, where he was a junior partner, Media, Retail, Marketing & Global Recruiting between 1997 and 2004. He has worked at Connell Wilson Commercial Property Consultants and has an MBA from the London Business School (1997).
3.	At Sainsbury's, he will be a member of the audit and nomination committees.
4	The Board of J Sainsbury plc is chaired by David Tyler.
