J Sainsbury plc ('the Company')

Application has been made to the Financial Services Authority and the London Stock Exchange plc for a total of 22,000,000 Ordinary shares of 28 4/7p each ('shares') to be admitted to the Official List.  

These shares are being reserved under block listings and will be issued as a result of the exercise of shares granted pursuant to the following schemes:

Scheme	Shares
J Sainsbury plc Share Plan 2005	16,000,000
J Sainsbury plc Long Term Incentive Scheme 2006	6,000,000

When issued these shares will rank pari passu with the existing Ordinary shares.
