Board appointment

The Board of The Sage Group plc ("Sage") is pleased to announce the appointment of Donald Brydon, CBE as a non-executive Director and Chairman designate.  He will join the Board on the 6 July 2012 and will succeed Tony Hobson as Chairman on 1 September 2012.

Donald Brydon is currently Chairman of Smiths Group plc and Royal Mail Group Ltd.   Since 1996 he has been Chairman of Amersham plc, TNS plc, London Metal Exchange, and the international children's development charity EveryChild, and SID of Allied Domecq plc and Scottish Power plc. He was previously Chairman and CEO of BZW Investment Management and AXA Investment Managers, in addition to acting as CEO of BZW.   He will stand down from the Boards of AXA Investment Managers SA and AXA Rosenberg LLP in June 2012.   

Commenting on the appointment Tony Hobson, Chairman, said:

"We are delighted to welcome Donald to the Sage Board.  I have had the pleasure of serving on this Board for 9 years and have been Chairman for the past 5 years.  Having recently overseen the transition to Guy Berruyer as Chief Executive, it is an appropriate time for me to pass the Chairmanship on.  I am pleased to be doing so to someone of Donald's standing and experience and am in no doubt that he will make a very significant contribution to Sage, initially as a non-executive Director and subsequently as Chairman".

The Board and Executive of Sage would like to express its appreciation for the significant contribution that Tony Hobson has made to the company, firstly as a non-executive Director and subsequently as Chairman.  Tony has led the Board with authority, given the company clear strategic direction and has played an important role in supporting Guy Berruyer in his transition to Chief Executive. Sage is in a strong position as it moves into its next stage of growth and development.
