Major Expansion at London Luton Airport

Ryanair Holdings PLC 16 February 2000 RYANAIR ANNOUNCES MAJOR EXPANSION AT LONDON LUTON AIRPORT Flights increase from 4 to 10 daily Lowest Ever Fare of £3.99 plus taxes announced Ryanair, Europe's largest low fares airline today (Wednesday, 16th February 2000) announced that it had reached agreement with London Luton Airport, and as a result would be launching a major expansion of its London Luton - Dublin services for Summer 2000. The airline which has an aircraft based at London Luton will increase its Dublin schedule from 4 to 10 flights daily, and to celebrate, Ryanair today launched its lowest ever fare on the London Luton - Dublin route of just £3.99 return plus taxes, which is available for a two week period on Ryanair's internet site at www. RYANAIR.COM. Speaking in Luton this morning when announcing the details of these expanded services this Summer, Ryanair CEO, Michael O'Leary said: 'We are delighted that we have reached agreement with London Luton Airport on extending a low cost base this Summer which will enable Ryanair to increase our schedule from 4 to 10 flights daily and launch this new and lowest ever return fare of just £3.99 plus taxes. Ryanair has pioneered the development of low fare travel to and from the UK, and this new agreement with London Luton will enable us to continue to grow our business to the benefit of passengers in the Luton area, and enable us to attract many more Irish visitors to use London Luton Airport. 'We however remain concerned at the impediments to growth at Luton. The present structure whereby the Council expects a concession fee for every additional passenger militates against both low fares and traffic growth. Ryanair would be interested in developing new routes and offering more low fares from London Luton Airport, but to do so there must be a more growth orientated cost arrangement between London Luton Airport and Luton City Council which encourages new routes, promotes low air fares, and creates many new jobs. London Luton Airport has tremendous potential, and with airlines such as Ryanair this potential can be realised. However all parties must work together to provide customers with the lowest possible air fares, and then Ryanair will play its part in continuing to deliver new routes, more traffic, and more jobs at London Luton Airport.
