RYANAIR HOLDINGS PLC 14 September 1999 RYANAIR CALLS FOR GOVERNMENT TO SUPPORT NEW ROUTES TO/FROM EUROPE At its 1999 Annual General Meeting, held today (Tuesday, 14th September 1999), Ryanair called on the Government to support its proposal to launch 10 new European routes direct from Dublin. These new routes would bring an additional 1 million visitors to / from Ireland per annum and would provide Irish consumers with low fares to Italy, France, Germany and Scandinavia for the first time. Speaking at the meeting, the Chief Executive of Ryanair, Michael O'Leary, said: 'We urge the Government to support our proposal for 10 new low fare European routes and 1 million additional visitors to Ireland. We will offer fares to European visitors representing savings of approx. 80% on those high fares currently being offered on these routes and will grow traffic in the same way we have delivered record growth rates on our UK routes and on both our Dublin - Paris and Dublin - Brussels routes. At least 1 million additional visitors will fly on these low fare routes within the second year of operation. Our plans would involve basing 10 of our new 737-800 aircraft here in Dublin and would create over 500 high quality jobs for pilots and cabin crew. 'The proposal involves Ryanair building a low cost terminal in a public private partnership with Aer Rianta and handing back the facility to Aer Rianta for free in return for a long term low cost deal at Dublin Airport. In the current environment where UK passenger numbers into Ireland are stagnating, it is vital that the Government deliver the fresh impetus that this proposal will give to Ireland's tourism industry'.
