Appointment of New Non-Executive Director

The Board of Electrocomponents plc is pleased to announce the appointment of
Keith Hamill as a Non-Executive Director of the Company with effect from 23rd
July 1999.

Mr Hamill is a chartered accountant and currently Group Finance Director of 
W H Smith Group plc and Treasurer of Nottingham University.  Prior to joining 
W H Smith Mr Hamill was a partner of Price Waterhouse, Director of Financial
Control at Guinness plc, Finance Director of United Distillers and Group
Finance Director of Forte Group plc.
