Rolls-Royce PLC 27 July 2000 MORE ROLLS-ROYCE POWER FOR SINGAPORE AIRLINES Rolls-Royce plc added US$90 million to its order book today as Singapore Airlines (SIA) announced that it was converting three options for Rolls-Royce Trent-powered Boeing 777s into firm orders. SIA has now placed firm orders for 43 Trent-powered 777s of which 18 are currently in service with the remaining 25 yet to be delivered. The airline has options on a further 18 777s, also with Rolls-Royce power. John Cheffins, Managing Director - Airlines, Rolls-Royce, said: 'We welcome this announcement which extends the Trent's presence within SIA. They are not only a highly valued customer but also a business partner in wider interests in Singapore.' Singapore Airlines Engineering Company, Rolls-Royce and Hong Kong Aircraft Engineering Company are joint venture partners in a Trent engine overhaul and maintenance facility opening in 2002 in Singapore. The aircraft involved in today's announcement consist of two extended range Boeing 777-200ERs and one Boeing 777-200. SIA is using the Boeing 777-200ER on some European services. It is also considering using the aircraft to serve some trans-Pacific destinations. They will be fitted with the 92,000lb thrust Trent 892. The first of these three aircraft will be delivered in 2002, although SIA will receive its initial -200ER next year. SIA will also be taking delivery of the Trent 500-powered A340-500 in October 2002. The Trent 800 entered service on the Boeing 777 in 1996 and began operations with SIA a year later. The Trent 800 fleet has accumulated over a million flight hours, 70 per cent of which have been achieved with Asia Pacific airlines. It has secured more than half the 777 engine market in the region and has a leading 44 per cent share worldwide.
