SAS Engine Order Worth $90 Million

Rolls-Royce PLC 18 February 2000 SAS ENGINE ORDER WORTH $90 MILLION TO ROLLS-ROYCE Rolls-Royce plc, the aerospace, marine and energy group, has won business worth up to $90 million as its share of an engine order from Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS). The contract is for V2500 engines to power up to 22 Airbus Industrie A321-100 aircraft. V2500s are produced by International Aero Engines (IAE) in which Rolls-Royce is a major shareholder. The order is for 12 firm plus 10 option aircraft with first delivery in the autumn of 2001. Vagn Sorensen, Senior Vice President, Business Systems Division, SAS, said: 'We have been impressed with the reliability and cost-effectiveness of the V2500 engines that we operate today and expect no less of the engine in the future.' SAS already operates the V2500 on eight MD-90 regional jets. It is the first time the airline has chosen a member of the Airbus single-aisle family with the IAE powerplant. Formed in 1946, SAS is a consortium of the Danish, Norwegian and Swedish national carriers and is Scandinavia's premier airline. It is part of the Star Alliance and offers more than 8,000 daily departures to over 800 destinations in 114 countries through its partnership network.
