Rolls-Royce PLC 17 October 2000 ROLLS-ROYCE WINS $63MILLION ORDER TO UPGRADE AMERICAN TRANS AIR FLEET Rolls-Royce has been chosen by American Trans Air (ATA) to upgrade the RB211 engines on its fleet of Lockheed L-1011 Tristars. Including spare engines, the deal represents $63 million worth of business over the next three years. The work involves upgrading the RB211-524B4s on ATA's five L-1011-500 aircraft with a modification package that includes an enhanced standard of combustor and improved high and low pressure turbines. The result is increased time on-wing and improved fuel consumption. Ian Aitken, Executive Vice President Airlines - North America, Rolls-Royce said, 'This follow-on business from American Trans Air capitalises on our policy of feeding back latest technology benefits into mature products.' As North America's largest charter carrier, ATA flies to more than 400 destinations. As well as its 19 L-1011s, it also operates 13 Boeing 757s powered by Rolls-Royce RB211-535E4 engines. ATA recently ordered Rolls-Royce RB211 engines for a further 22 Boeing 757-300 aircraft with deliveries beginning in July 2001.
