Rolls-Royce plc announced today that Paul Heiden will become Finance Director
with effect from 1 October 1999.  He succeeds Mike Townsend who is retiring on
31 December 1999.  

Mike Townsend was appointed Finance Director of Rolls-Royce plc in November
1991, having joined the company in January 1990.  He will remain on the Board
until his retirement date.

Sir Ralph Robins, Chairman of Rolls-Royce plc, said:

'I would like to thank Mike for his outstanding contribution as Finance
Director over the last eight years'.

Paul Heiden was appointed to the Rolls-Royce Board on 1 July 1997 with
responsibility for the Industrial Businesses.  He joined the company from 
Hanson PLC in May 1992 as the Director, Finance for the Aerospace Businesses,
a position he held until July 1997.
