Rolls-Royce PLC 4 August 2000 ROLLS-ROYCE WINS $200 MILLION IN ORDERS FROM AMERICAN AIRLINES AND AMERICAN EAGLE Rolls-Royce plc, the aerospace, defence, marine and energy company, has won engine orders worth a total of $200 million to power aircraft ordered by American Airlines and its regional airline division, American Eagle. Rolls-Royce will provide Trent 800 engines worth $168 million for six new Boeing 777s for American Airlines and AE 3007 engines worth $32 million for six Embraer ERJ 135 regional jets for American Eagle. With this latest order, American Airlines will operate a total of 43 Trent 800-powered 777s, 122 RB211-535-powered Boeing 757s and 75 Tay-powered Fokker 100s. American Eagle has firm and option orders for 277 ERJ 145 and ERJ 135 aircraft, both powered by the AE 3007. American Airlines and American Eagle currently operate a fleet of more than 260 Rolls-Royce powered aircraft. Deliveries of the six new 777s will take place in late 2001 and early 2002, while the six ERJ 135s, which are options now converted to firm orders, will be delivered in 2002. John Cheffins, Rolls-Royce Managing Director, Airlines, said: 'This order extends a relationship with American Airlines, one of our largest global customers. These engines will continue to improve the quality and flexibility of its long-haul and regional fleet.' The orders bring the total value of business announced by Rolls-Royce this year to more than $8.3 billion. Rolls-Royce and American Airlines are also partnered in a joint venture engine repair company, Texas Aero Engine Services L.L.C., which services the Trent 800, RB211-535 and the Tay 650. Notes to Editors This latest order means the Trent 800 has secured 43 per cent of the Boeing 777 market. The Rolls-Royce Trent family is now available to 90 per cent of all new generation widebody aircraft. Trent engines are available on the Airbus Industrie A330, standard Boeing 777, the A340-500/600, future developments of the 747 and 767, and the A3XX. Economically and technically, the Trent family continues to be the market's preferred choice, sharing common, advanced technologies for cost effective development. Engines are offered with a range of thrusts between 53,000lb to 95,000lb, with flexibility for further expansion. Rolls-Royce plc is a global company providing power on land, sea and air.
