Rolls-Royce PLC 30 May 2001 30 May, 2001 ACQUISITION EXPANDS ROLLS-ROYCE MARINE CAPABILITY Rolls-Royce plc, the world leader in marine power systems, has further expanded its capabilities with the acquisition of German company INTERING for £2 millionGmbH for an undisclosed sum. Rolls-Royce is now the only company able to offer tank stabilisers, through the INTERING purchase, and fin stabilisers, separately or as a combined package. Saul Lanyado, President - Marine for Rolls-Royce, said: 'This acquisition makes a good strategic fit with our existing capability, allowing us to become a market leader in ship stabiliser equipment, providing a unique, tailored service to the commercial and naval marine markets. 'We can offer a broader range of stabiliser solutions than our competitors, using our control systems capabilities to maximise effectiveness. We intend to develop the INTERING business, using the global network of Rolls-Royce sales and marketing teams to increase sales success.' Hamburg-based INTERING was formed in 1969 and employs 30 people. Its products are in service with more than 600 ships and its sales last year were £2.9 million. As well as tank stabilisers, its portfolio includes: * Anti-heeling stabilisers, designed to work while ships are stationary, securing horizontal ramps for fast loading and discharging. * The INTERING Stability Test System, a stability measuring system improving both safety and payload, which won the Seatrade Award for Innovation in 1994. * The INTERING Parametric Roll Preventer, launched last year for large container and cruise vessels, protecting cargo and passengers.
