$75m Boeing 777 Engine Order Won from El Al

Rolls-Royce PLC 7 January 2000 ROLLS-ROYCE WINS BOEING 777 ENGINE ORDER FROM EL AL Rolls-Royce plc, the civil aerospace, defence, marine and energy group, has been selected by El Al, Israel's national carrier, to supply Trent 895 engines for three Boeing 777 aircraft which are on firm order. El Al's US $75 million order brings the Rolls-Royce market share to 44 per cent on the 777 with orders for more than 250 aircraft worldwide. John Cheffins, Managing Director - Airlines at Rolls-Royce, said: 'This order reaffirms the Trent as the engine of choice for the 777 with eleven customers. It further extends a long established relationship with El Al which has developed over many years.' Tel Aviv based El Al will operate the 95,000lb thrust Trent 895 powered Boeing 777s on its long-haul network to destinations including New York, Chicago, Hong Kong and London. Aircraft deliveries are scheduled to begin in January 2001. Joel Feldschuh, President of El Al said: 'El Al is proud to continue its ongoing relationship with Rolls-Royce with the purchase of Trent powered 777s. We are extremely pleased with the reliability and performance of Rolls-Royce products.' El Al's fleet of aircraft includes nine Boeing 757 aircraft, powered by Rolls-Royce RB211-535 engines, which entered into service with the carrier in the mid-1980s.
