$700m Contract from American Trans Air

Rolls-Royce PLC 5 May 2000 ROLLS-ROYCE WINS $700 MILLION IN NEW BUSINESS FROM AMERICAN TRANS AIR Rolls-Royce plc today signed an agreement to provide engines with a potential value of $380 million to power up to 20 Boeing 757 aircraft for American Trans Air. In addition, the companies signed a maintenance agreement worth $290 million over 15 years. The agreement features the uprated RB211-535E4C engine to power the airline's 10 firm Boeing 757-300s, with an additional 10 purchase rights, and an engine maintenance agreement for these aircraft as well as ATA's existing Rolls-Royce powered Boeing 757-200 fleet. Today's news also includes two Rolls-Royce powered Boeing 757-200 aircraft ordered, but not announced, by ATA in December last year. 'This is the first North American order for the Boeing 757-300, and continues our 16-year relationship with American Trans Air,' said James M. Guyette, President and Chief Executive Officer, Rolls-Royce North America. 'We are proud to support ATA in its fleet renewal and expansion as it grows its Chicago Midway operations with a new variant of the successful RB211-535E4 engine.' The flat rating of the RB211-535E4 has been extended to enhance payload capability at hotter temperatures for ATA's Boeing 757-300s. The new variant, called the RB211-535E4C, has been designed to meet the performance requirements of Chicago Midway Airport. The Rolls-Royce RB211-535E4 is the quietest, most cost effective and reliable engine in its class, with one of the lowest shop-visit rates in the industry. All Boeing 757-300s delivered or ordered to date are Rolls-Royce powered, and 80 percent of all Boeing 757 operators have selected Rolls-Royce engines. This brings the total value of Rolls-Royce aero engine orders announced this year to more than five billion dollars.
