$650m Orders at Asian Aerospace

Rolls-Royce PLC 22 February 2000 ROLLS-ROYCE ANNOUNCES $650M ORDERS AT ASIAN AEROSPACE Rolls-Royce plc, the civil aerospace, defence, marine and energy group, today announced orders worth around $650 million for AE3007 and T56 engines at the Asian Aerospace 2000 show in Singapore. The AE3007 engines worth $490 million will power 100 Embraer regional jets. Continental Express, the original North American launch customer for the ERJ 145, will exercise 75 existing options to purchase 25 ERJ 135 and 50 ERJ 145 aircraft. This is in addition to 25 previously undisclosed options for ERJ 145 aircraft exercised in December 1999. The 7,600 lb thrust Rolls-Royce AE 3007 engine is the sole powerplant for the 50-passenger ERJ 145 and the 37-passenger ERJ 135. Firm orders and options are now 673 for the ERJ 145 and 322 for the ERJ 135, bringing the total number of aircraft ordered to 995. Currently in service with 25 operators on three continents, a total of 186 ERJ 145 and 21 ERJ 135 aircraft have been delivered to date. The AE3007 also powers the recently announced 44-passenger ERJ 140 aircraft. The T56 contracts from the U.S. Navy total more than $150 million to provide Rolls-Royce Allison T56-A-427 turboprop engines and parts. The largest of the contracts is a $113 million firm order for 52 engines for the U.S. Navy and the governments of Taiwan and France to power new Northrop Grumman E-2C+ Hawkeyes, all-weather, carrier-based, tactical airborne warning and control system aircraft. Engine deliveries are scheduled to begin mid-year 2000. The award includes options for nine additional engines, which will increase the contract's total value. A second contract, valued at up to $43 million for firm orders and options from the U.S. Navy, is for T56 engine first-stage turbine vanes. Deliveries will begin in the first quarter of this year.
