Investment in Start-up Offshore IFA Portal

NewMedia SPARK PLC 12 November 1999 NEW MEDIA SPARK INVESTS IN START-UP OFFSHORE IFA PORTAL New Media SPARK plc ('SPARK') announces today that it has agreed to invest £350,000 for a 28% equity stake in Bridge4u.com, a newly established company which is developing the first interactive multi-lingual, online information, trading and e-commerce platform linking financial advisors in the off-shore financial services community, their clients, and the investment institutions who serve these clients. The Bridge4U.com portal will be aimed primarily at the large community of financial advisors operating outside Europe, where SPARK believes that there is a major gap in the market . In view of the strategic importance of this investment, Michael Whitaker, SPARK's CEO, will be joining the Board of Bridge4u as non-executive Chairman. Michael Whitaker, CEO, commented: 'The Internet is the ideal platform for delivering many types of financial services, and this will be an area of major growth in the coming years. In particular, the very large and geographically disparate community of financial advisors and their clients outside Europe presents a major opportunity and the experienced team who have established Bridge4u are well aware of the specialist requirements of this marketplace, and are uniquely positioned to exploit it'. Bridge4U's Managing Director Sherry Kagan Segal commented: 'By leveraging the unique power of the Internet and by employing next - generation communications and e-commerce security technology, Bridge4U will provide an unrivalled service for the international financial community. The initial response to test marketing has been highly positive, and we hope that Bridge4u's system will quickly establish itself as the definitive information and trading platform in this market. ' This is the second investment announced by SPARK since its flotation two weeks ago. SPARK is in the latter stages of negotiating investments in several other early stage Internet companies, with the objective of building a portfolio of investments in early stage companies operating in strategically key areas of the Internet. In doing so SPARK is being assisted by the full resources and deal flow of its partner company New Media Investors, as well as the contacts and specialist expertise of its partner shareholder GlobalNet Financial.
