RM launches revolutionary 'one-per-pupil' computing device with prices
starting at £169
RM today launches the RM Asus miniBook, a revolutionary mobile computing device,
at the 2007 Handheld Learning Conference. With prices starting at £169, the RM
Asus miniBook will make one-per-pupil computing affordable for many schools.
At less than one kg, the RM Asus miniBook combines the portability and quick
start of a PDA, with the powerful capabilities of a full notebook computer. A
'solid-state' hard drive means fast boot-up and shut-down, as well as increased
robustness. The miniBook also features a seven inch colour screen, integrated
Web-cam, microphone and speakers, wireless networking, three USB 2.0 ports and
VGA output. There's also an optional 3G module for Internet connection whilst
out and about.
Pupils will be able to use the RM Asus miniBook for a whole range of computing
tasks, such as e-mail, document creation, online communication, listening to
music and Internet browsing, as well as accessing their school's Learning
Platform for academic activities.
Tim Pearson, CEO of RM, said:
'Many schools - particularly those in BSF projects - are looking for ways of
achieving one-per-pupil computing. miniBook is a fantastic solution - it
combines fully-functional Web computing with a robust package, all at a
revolutionary new price point.
'It's appropriate that we're launching miniBook at the Handheld Learning
Conference - it clearly shows the way for a whole new class of computing
devices. Bringing together the power of a laptop, with the convenience of a PDA,
we expect to see miniBooks appearing in thousands of school bags soon.'
